Handling/Lifting

Handling and lifting magnets are used to move ferromagnetic (often steel) objects. Because no mechanical gripping (clamping) takes place, there is much less chance of damaging the load! Handling magnets are suitable for integration in robot applications, while lifting magnets are generally used in combination with lifting equipment (hoists). Sheet separators are used for picking up steel sheets from a stack; they use magnetic force to push the sheets apart, which makes it easier to pick them up.

Important note: A number of conditions must be met for safe and correct magnetic lifting of ferromagnetic objects. Among other things, the magnet must make good contact with the surface; an air gap of just 1 mm, for example, reduces the lifting power by nearly half. When lifting/hoisting heavy objects you must also always perform a risk analysis to ensure the safety of the operating personnel.
